Wind-up weather
It was too hot to do anything yesterday. Today was supposed to be nearly as hot - something in the league of 35°C - but I think we might have been saved by stubborn cloud cover. The house has stayed mostly cool, which is the main thing.
We went shopping around late morning - tomorrow is a replacement public holiday for Australia Day (yesterday), and we need supplies for Tuesday's cricket match. It will be Australia against New Zealand, and I'm not so sure about our chances of winning.
We found lunch at a newly completed food court in the local shopping centre. There wasn't much choice - Italian, Chinese, or McDonalds. A fourth shop lingered in the shadows, deserted and closed.
There was something odd about the menu that hung from the ceiling at the back of the Chinese stall.
The front of the food places each bore a decorative construct that looked like a large, warped piece of plank, inscribed with the shop's name and whatnot. The massive thing flowed back into the shop-stall itself and disappeared against the back wall. At the Chinese place, it stopped dead against the menu because there was nowhere for it to go, and partially obscured the first line across the top of the menu. I guess someone miscalculated some measurements, somewhere. It didn't matter anyhow, the menu was confusing as hell.
The waiter gave me a large serve of rice and chicken even if he was telling me about the price of a small serve. Grossly inflated, of course.
The McDonalds here are cashing in on "Monsters, Inc." madness and giving away figurines from the movie with their Happy MealsTM.
We spent much of lunch surrounded by excited kids, parents running on the dregs of patience, and the whizzing, whirring noises of plastic, green, wind-up Mike Wazowskis.
